Dorsey Brothers Born outside Shenandoah in 1904 and 1905, Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey were two of the most famous bandleaders of the big band era. They performed from the 1920's through the 1950's. A number of famous singers sang with their bands, including Frank Sinatra. There is a state historical marker dedicated to them at Main and Centre Street in Shenandoah. Recently, the U.S. Post Office issued postage stamps in their honor.
