Jerry Wolman
Jerry Wolman, a native of Shenandoah, outbid Philadelphia businessman Jack Wolgin and became the new owner of the Philadelphia Eagles football franchise in 1963. The sale price was $5,505,000. In 1969, Mr. Wolman sold the team for a reputed $16.1 million, at the time a record price for a professional sports team. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame; one of the Hall of Fame chapters is named after him.
